If you are 40 years or older, a biking enthusiast and enjoy socializing with a bunch of like-minded people, then Ulysses is probably what you are looking for!
The need to be at least 40 years of age flows out of the poem by Lord Alfred Tennyson, "Ulysses". It tells the story of a Greek hero, Ulysses, who, in his later years, is well settled but starts getting bored and longs to go adventuring.
First thing to do is to see if there is a Chapter in your area and make contact with the Chapter representatives. This can be done by following the Chapter link on the home page.
You will also find a list of Chapters and representatives in the Bike SA magazine and if all else fails drop Julian a mail at admin@ulyssessa.co.za
Once you have made contact and taken the steps required by the Chapter for you to join them, you will be required to fill in an application form to join Ulysses National, pay your Ulysses National annual subs of R250,00 per annum (R125,00 if joining after 1 October for 6 months to 31 March) and the once off joining fee of R250,00. Chapter joining and membership fees are dependent on the various Chapters.
Your application and proof of deposit will then be submitted the National Office by the Chapter representative, and once your application is processed, your registration documents, membership card and metal badge (Silver for Junior (40-49)), (Gold for senior (50-59)), (Gold Plus (60-69)), (Platinum (70+)) or (Platinum Plus (80+)) will be forwarded to your Chapter Representative who will hand these over together with your Ulysses Colours (back patch and chapter scroll).
You need to be in good standing with your Chapter to remain a member of Ulysses SA.
Enjoy!
